It’s easy to do that. Just use 3D_text_creator_from_file.jsx which is included in the download. Instructions on how to use it are included at the top of the script file. You can also watch the tutorial on Aetuts+ which is linked above, it walks through the steps to get it done.

Hey hey, here’s the deal; I love this script, but I need to import about 800 names into a comp with it (I am talking about surname and family name in one layer – so you can read the full name with a space in between)

Any idea??

Right now the names are provided in an excel sheet….

Just double checked the file and there’s 2 scripts in the .zip file. You just need to unzip it. And the color variations are set in the variables at the top of the script:
var set_main_color = [1,0,0,1];
var set_hue_range = [-20,20];
var set_lightness_range = [-50,0];
var set_saturation_range = [-50,0];

I purchased the script but I got only one file in there and it didn’t have any options for color variations

@Eduardo - I fixed the link and added a bonus script 3D_text_spreader_and_distributor_from_file.jsx (you get both scripts in the download) which will randomly distribute on the x and y axis while evenly spreading on the z axis

@Ben - I work on a mac myself so no you definitely don't need a PC. You can tell text edit to make regular text files instead of RTF files in the prefs (it's a radio button on the top left right under Format). Alternatively you can use the excellent free text editor TextWrangler

Having the same problem as above – have used a basic font and each return line is replaced with “/”

Text edit is the basic text editor on mac – but it doesnt give you the option to save out anything but rich text – either rtf or doc formats basically – I have to get onto a PC to use this script properly ?

I checked that… weird. am running CS3 an the script works fine “out of the box”, but if I edit the X value, or change “true” to “false” or anything, it won’t run. Is Wordpad the preferred editor?

Make sure you are saving it as a regular text file and not a rich text file

Hi, I am attempting to use the 3D_Text_Spreader_From_File script. When I make even a minor adjustment to the script (Change x value to 100) the script will not run in AE. I am using Wordpad to edit the script. Am I doing something incorrect?
