newbie question:

Where do we install the Magnum script?

I tried dropping the file into /Scripts folder (AE CS5.0) but I’m not seeing a new panel in After Effects show up.

Hi Lloyd,
Tested it on a fresh CS5.5 installation, and it worked fine – so something is amiss with my AFX.
Went through all the settings, all same result.
It seems to start and then finish up pretty quickly, too quickly.

Anyway your script is fine, it’s somthing I have that is interacting with it.

The other thing to check is to make sure you don’t have any effects on your layers. Works for me without issue so anything else that might be usual that you can let us know about will help.

Thanks for reporting this. We will fix this in a future version. In the meantime you can simply pre-comp your layer with effects.

I start CS5.5, have a comp with HD 25p, I select the layer with ProRes422 HQ footage and press “do it” in the Edit Detector. A new Layer is created that’s called Magnum something something but aside from that nothing happens. I try to press “Stop” but nothing happens. I can use CS5.5 as before though.

Just figured out the “problem”:
Had an effect on the layer. Too bad it can’t split layers with effects, now I have to copy the effect into each layer…

Hi Lloyd-
Afraid – not detecting edits on any footage type/any length/starting at 0 rather than 1.
Win 7×64 – 10.5.0.253 – 12gig of ram.
Any tips for me? thanks – havn’t tried on v5 or lower yet.

No, this will split the clip at edit points. It’s not a forensic tool if that’s what you mean.

I have a video that appears to have been edited but is claimed to be untouched, will this determine if the video has been edited “after” it was originally recorded?

How long of a work area are you running Magnum on? AE will run out of memory eventually if it’s a very long work area. Depends on the size and type of footage as well as your machine’s capabilities. I would try running Magnum on short bits at a time. You can test to see how long you can go at one time.
