So I'm having a big issue in that CS 5.5 my Encore-formatted subtitle file only partially imports and when it does it doesn't put it any keyframes, it only puts in one line... I can see it processing, but then it just halts at some point. I've gone through my subtitles line-by-line and see no errors in it. I've tried breaking the file into multiple parts and it won't even process partial files. I paid the $19 because originally my tests went well, but now that I've paid everything is broken :/

Does setting it to "Right To Left" make no difference at all, or is it wrong in some other way? I sent you an email asking for more information but didn't hear back. Let me know if you're still having problems.

If you create a text layer in paragraph mode (with the text tool selected, click and drag in comp window to define the text box area) and have that layer selected when you import it will word wrap inside that box.

Hey there! Thanks so much for this script, it's enabling us to get translation done on a documentary in a rare language and then edit the whole film without doing a ton of workflow work getting titles burned into the footage. I can tell you more if you want.

My only request is that there would be a version that woks with word wrapping! Sometimes our translations come out a little long, or the translator misjudges the line length... and to be able to have those automatically wrap would be great! Thanks!

Thank you Paul for your quick reply, Yes my film is 1 hour and 45 minutes and yes I did split the sub layers as you mentioned and I agree with you that this might be the problem but as a result I lost my work, but thankfully I found a version of my project process just about two steps back in Premier project file so I will imported dynamically and will spend like a whole day to reproduce the lost one..

I saved a copy of my project but it was very long time and being busy so into the project made me forget to save copies of it..

Thank you again and definitely I will try to use your script again in proper manner.

Best Regards

Hi Firas, if you're "cutting" the subtitles in AE by splitting the subtitle text layer, this is probably what's causing your project to grow, as there will be duplicates of all the keyframes on each copy of the layer...and in a 1hr 45min film, that's probably a lot of subtitles/keyframes. A better way would be to place the subtitles comp into another comp and split/edit the layer in there.

Thank you Paul for this script it is so amazing, when I downloaded it and install it into my AE CS5 it worked well, then I imported the subtitle of my 1:45 minute film from Encore text file and it did import, BUT !!

when I started cutting some of the subtitle from the imported timeline in AE for some editing reasons after effects have hanged for a while while saving the current file, then the program is totally hanged when I had to use the Alt+Ctrl+Del to close it... THEN my project file which I was working on it for more than THREE months is now opening anymore and I lost all my hard working ...

Please HELP, I noticed that the project file size is over 400 MB in size which is weird,

I am waiting your response with a fire burning my heart for all my precious loss ..

There's no built in way to do this, but here's something to try. Let's say you've imported the subtitles and have them as white text with no background. Drop this composition into another comp. Apply the Shift Channels effect to the layer and set Take Alpha From to Full On. Apply a Fast Blur and set it to 100. Apply a Mosaic effect and set the values to horizontal 20, Vertical 8. Apply a Threshold effect and experiment with the value to get white blocks on black. Apply an invert effect to make it black blocks on white. You'll need to experiment with the Mosaic values and possibly also the vertical position of the subtitles in the precomp. Then place another copy of the original subtitle precomp on top.

If there's demand for an option to automatically add a solid block of color under the subtitles, I can look into this for a future update.

Hi Leo, I sent you an email about this. Not sure if you got it. The only thing I can think is that you have extra line returns in your subtitle file that are causing blank lines to be created (i.e. a two line subtitle, one of which is blank) which is giving the vertical offset. Let me know if you're still having problems. If you send me your subtitles file I'll take a look.

Hi!
Some of the subtitles have jumped 1 row higher from the anchor point than others. I didn't find any reasonable explanation. Some are longer texts, others shorter, doesn't seem to make a difference to the "bug".

I would like to see this fixed, since i need it and just bought it. Is there a workaround or something?

Hi Paul,

Great work on this script, it's extremely useful!

There is one feature I really need, and that is the addition of vertical alignment 'bottom'. It's the standard for subtitles here in The Netherlands. I would be happy to donate a few euros if you add this feature because then I can really start using it. Of course the 5.5 update would also be welcome.

Hi Andy, the ArabicText script is specifically designed to import Arabic text correctly, while ImportSubtitles isn't. It would require a collaboration between myself and the author of ArabicText to get this working in ImportSubtitles as I'm not familiar with the problem it solves. You're only the second person who has asked about this, and I can look into it, but I'm afraid it won't happen any time soon.
