Provides a four-way view, with waveform monitor, RGB parade and a slice graph to assist with grading and colour matching in After Effects.

Demo

Features:

  • Four-way view of the current comp with full-colour and individual RGB channel views
  • Luminance waveform monitor
  • RGB parade
  • Slice graph to show RGB pixel levels for a given slice of the image
  • Split viewer to see before and after colour correction
  • Two gamma preview modes - slam up and slam down - to check hilights and black levels.

Instructions:

  • qp Grade Assistant works best on a GUIDE ADJUSTMENT LAYER - you'll be able to work without worrying about the scopes and 4-way view being rendered
  • For colour grading, create a new adjustment layer above your source layer, and make it a guide layer
  • Apply qp Grade Assistant - you will see the view split into a scopes pane on the left, and a 4-way view of your source on the right
  • Perform colour correction on your source layer, or on a further adjustment layer below the qp Grade Assistant layer
  • The scopes and the 4-way view will automatically update
  • To see a before/after comparison, select the source layer from the 'input 2' dropdown and use the 'Compare with Original' slider
  • To mix between the before view and the graded view, use the 'Compare Opacity' slider
  • Move the slice graph slider to check individual RGB levels for a given row of pixels
  • For colour matching of CG or other composited elements, apply qp Grade Assistant as normal and use the RGB channel views at the bottom as you tweak RGB levels
  • Slam up for checking black levels, and slam down to check hilights match. You can choose whether to see the gamma adjustments reflected in the scopes, or to bypass the scopes. Previewing either of these gamma adjustments shows a white border around the colour view

Coming in version 2:

  • Completely redesigned user interface
  • Vectorscope
  • Switchable RGB/YCbCr views and parade
  • Any feature requests? I'll be happy to consider them!
  • qp_Grade Assistant UI
