Throttle

This version has been deprecated and replace with Throttle-n-Purge
A dockable UI for quickly accessing preferences to speed up After Effects. Change project bit-depth, multiprocessing, and idle rendering.
Starting with After Effects CS4, there is a new multi-processing throttle system  that manages how many CPU’s are to be left free for other applications.  This script also adds access to a little known hidden preference that allows you to set the quality of the Toggle Pixel Aspect Correction button in the Comp View. (Please note that After Effects needs to be restarted after changing the PAR quality)
The package includes both Throttle and Throttle-n-Purge.

The definitive collection of scripts and plugins for Adobe After Effects

UPDATE:
I just realized, when I go on http://aescripts.com/throttle-12/ and add the script to the cart,
I get the same product as if I add the script from http://aescripts.com/throttle-n-purge/
That is because they have since been combined into one combined product. You get both when you purchase either one.
Thank you very much for both your replies.
By the way:
I get no error message whatsoever.
It just isn’t there.
I see:
PURGE
The three radio buttons for Colour Depth.
Multi processing OFF/ON Free: 2
Allow Idle Rendering
Thanks,
Dennis
I installed your script, works fine.
But neither “Throttle-n-Purge” nor “Throttle” show the tab for Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction.
Unfortunately, because I got this script for that reason.
Somehow though, the PARC looks a bit better now. Still has some edges, but very small one.
So the panel must have affected it.
Anyway it would be better if you could control it for a faster RAM preview.
I use a Mac Pro 8-Core with 16 GB Ram
After Effects 10.0.1.19 (from CS5)
Thanks,
Dennis
PAR Correction is no longer necessary in CS5 as the default now is what the script would change it too. If you look at the version history above you can see that it was removed in the latest version as it was causing conflicts in CS5.
Hey Lloyd,
I just bought your great “Throttle n purge” script but for some reason I cant seem to change the PAR correction quality tab. I click and select “High”…but it doesn’t change, it stays on “Low”.
Can you help?
I’m using AE CS3 on an Apple G5 dual 2.7 running OSX 10.5.8
Many thanks,
stormbox
PAR quality might not be compatible with CS3 but if it is you need to restart AE for the new pref to take effect.
Well i figured out how to install the scripts , but i find no major change in renderin it bro?
My Config.. vista 32 bt…….8gb ram
This script is for managing your preferences, which can potentially speed up your rendering if set properly but it all depends on your setup. 8GB is not enough ram to successfully use Multi-Proc rendering in my testing.
dude , i just bought ur script! it sounded really cool ! But i really dont know how to use it!
The tutorial link doesnt open up for me .. can u please help me ,,i really wanna speed up my after effects CS4 ! thanks mate !
Hi Lloyd, I just upgraded to snow leopard and did a re-install of CS3.
Whenever I try to loadthrottle I get this error;
“Unable to execute script at line 130. After Effects error: the section name and key (Item Window Settings, Viewer Odd Zoom Quality (0=low, 1=high, 2=high except for RAM preview)) could not be found in the preferences.”
any ideas?
It was working fine before on 10.5, and I LOVED it.
Thanks for reporting this. I posted a new version which catches this condition. Basically you need hit the ‘Toggle Pixel Aspect Correction’ button at least once to generate the pref in the preferences file so that Throttle can then control it. The button is at the bottom of the Comp window, it is a rectangle with a double pointed arrow above it (see picture in posting above).
Just curious. I discovered your script after I started using CS4 (which, until yesterday couldn’t run Nucleo). The MP button makes Nucleo shut off. Not sure if any other settings interfere with Spec Preview/Render.
How should this be configured to work with Nucleo Pro 2?
@Navarro – It should be able to work concurrently with Nucleo. Are you seeing a conflict?
@plastik7 – You need to be running After Effects version 8.0.2 or above to see that option
when i open this window in cs3, the function “Allow idle rendering” is missing….
any idea?
I am getting an error msg in CS4 something about line 130
@gybp – it means that AE will continue rendering when it is in the background. For example if you have a frame that takes 5 minutes to render and you switch to a web browser before it is finished rendering, it will continue rendering in the background while you surf the web. The default is for AE to stop rendering the frame when it’s not the foreground application.
what does the idle render means? i mean, what does it do?
slick code
Good job here , Lloyd! I’ve recently began working on a real-time graphics processor, ie videogame. Can you help me in figuring out the optimum way in exporting AE renders so that they are viewed as seamlessly integrated motion graphics by the engine ? I mean, if I want a complex motion scene, is there hope in exporting it in a friendly format or am I doomed to the cogs of a 3D studio editor ?
Cheers! and thanks for your wonderful help up on this site!
