Quick Overview

Label things in Adobe Premiere Pro

Labels PPro allows you to easily set label colors and select label groups with a single click. Select a clip or a project item and pick a color. Or better yet, select a bunch and apply the same label color to all of them.

The extension also provides a way to work with sequence or clip markers. Simply enable them in the Flyout menu and all of the Marker swatches are at your disposal. You can add markers to an active sequence or, if anything is selected in the sequence, to the selected clips.

Themes bring the power to Adobe Premiere Pro to switch Label Colors at any time without the need to restart the application. Try different label colors, assignments, and save them to file to share with the team.

Label colors for project items & sequence clips

An extension allows targeting either Project Panel items, or Active Sequence clips independently

  • Set label colors for multiple items/clips
  • Select items/clips that share same label color
  • Append items/clips to selection that share same label color
  • Remove items/clips from selection that have a given label color
  • Select all items/clips except ones that have a given label color

Premiere Pro does not provide a way to distinguish which panel is currently active (project or sequence), therefore there's a switch in the Labels PPro panel that allows switching focus manually.

Targeting Project Panel items do not have any limitations, however there are quite a few caveats
when it comes to working with Sequence Clips. Please read about it here.

Markers

  • Add a marker with a given label to a clip/sequence
  • Go to next/previous clip/sequence marker that has a given label color
  • Delete all markers from clip/sequence that have a given label color

Themes

Themes provide an easy and intuitive way to change label colors, names and assignments project-wide. It provides a way to share and use the same setup between a group of people, making sure everyone has a correct setup.

Limitations

Extensions usability is limited by the Adobe Premiere API. For instance, only items that have a source can be labeled, such as video, image, and sound layers. Also, Display the project item name and label color for all instances setting has to be enabled in the project for it to work (read about it here). That results in both Item and Layer colors being the same - changing color in the timeline automatically changes the color in the Project Panel. The label colors are in synch for layers and items. And this is a huge limitation, apparently. Read more here.
