License Activation Management

Nov 18, 2025 by a + a

Licenses need to be activated online, so the machine being licensed must be connected to the internet for this process to be completed.

There is a 7-day grace period for this to happen.  Subscription licenses (SUB) need to be checked online every 7 days. All other licenses need to be re-checked online every 30-90 days. This means the machine can be offline in between these check intervals.

Troubleshooting

Make sure you are using the latest version

The first thing to always check is that you are using the latest version of the software as this is very commonly the root of the issue.  You can always download the latest minor version from the 'My Downloads & Licenses' section in your user account or by using the aescripts + aeplugins manager app. Major versions are mentioned on the product page.

Trial Expired

If you suddenly get a "Trial expired" or "Max number of activations reached" error you can deactivate any previous activations in the 'My Downloads & Licenses' section in your user account.

Cannot connect to online activation server (-33)

If you are being told that the activation is required and an internet connection is required, make sure the machine is connected to the internet and the normal https port 443 is open so the machine is able to connect to the activation servers. If you need to whitelist a firewall, please use a wildcard:  *.aescripts.com

Also, check to make sure you don't have any firewalls, permissions, corporate policy, VPN settings, virus blocker, etc that might be blocking the connection. Please note that it is not uncommon for there to be more than one firewall installed on Windows systems, as well as checking settings and other firewalls on your internet router and/or provider.

If you are still experiencing license activation connection issues, try using the aescripts + aeplugins manager app to activate your license:

—> Please deactivate and re-activate the license again in the manager. Make sure you are using the latest version of the manager.

License Deactivation

Deactivate from the License UI in the plugin

Every product (script, extension, plugin, etc) can deactivate the license from the Licensing UI. Please look for the 'Deactivate' button next to the license registration.

Deactivate using the aescripts + aeplugins manager app

If you have access to the computer the licenses are activated on, you can also use the aescripts + aeplugins manager app to deactivate licenses. The app allows you to batch deactivate several products at once.

If deactivating the license directly in the product is not possible, see Online Activation Management below.
