Plugin Overview

Fractal Terrain uses a ray-casting method to transform fractal noise data into stunning 3D landscapes. It provides an intuitive and flexible way to create detailed environments directly within After Effects.

Key Features

Fractal Terrain Generation

Generate highly detailed and realistic terrain using a high-quality fractal algorithm and a sophisticated ray-casting method.

Customizable

Enjoy intuitive terrain creation with easy-to-understand parameters, giving you full control over the look and feel of your landscape.

High-Speed Post Effects

GPU-optimized algorithms ensure high-speed execution of post-effects, including depth of field.

Seamless After Effects Integration

Supports composition cameras and lights, and allows for 3D layer projection using textures for even more detailed scenes.

System Requirements

Ensure your system meets the following requirements to run Fractal Terrain smoothly.

Supported Platforms

Item Windows Mac
OS Windows 10 or later (64-bit) macOS 11 or later (Supports Apple Silicon)
After Effects 2020 or later

Supported GPU Environments

Item Supported Environment
Metal (Mac) macOS 11 or later
CUDA NVIDIA GTX 970 / 980 series (Maxwell, Compute Capability 5.2) or later
OpenCL GPU supporting OpenCL 1.2 or higher (Intel / AMD)

Practical Examples

Get inspired with these examples of scenes created using Fractal Terrain.

The parameters used for these scenes are described in the accompanying documentation.

Example 1: Basic Mountain Range

Create classic, realistic mountain ranges by simply adjusting the parameters. Add a directional light and a background for a dramatic effect.

Example of a basic mountain range scene

Example 2: Cooled Lava

Use the Lava Field type to generate rugged, volcanic terrain. Adjust specular values and add atmospheric effects to simulate a heat haze.

Example of a cooled lava scene

Example 3: Lunar Surface

Easily create a barren, extraterrestrial landscape by setting the Type to Lunar Surface and disabling the Atmosphere effect to mimic the vacuum of space.

Example of a lunar surface scene

Example 4: Moving Waves

Transform the terrain into a dynamic body of water with the Ripple Waves type. Animate the offset values to create realistic, flowing motion.

Example 5: A Valley Filled with Fog

Sculpt a detailed valley with the Base Terrain parameters, create stepped plateaus with Flatten Band, and add a thick, volumetric atmosphere with the Fog effect.
