If you create content for social media, captions are essential—but they can also be a hassle to generate. Many apps require a monthly subscription, and built-in options on Instagram and TikTok are limited or unreliable. In this video, I introduce Caption Cat, a powerful plugin for DaVinci Resolve that makes it super easy to create animated subtitles—automatically and without a subscription!

Caption Cat is developed by mamoworld, the creator of BeatEdit. I got early access to the beta version and even provided some feedback that made it into the final release. But just to be clear—this is not a sponsored video. I just think Caption Cat is an awesome tool that deserves attention, especially since there’s nothing else quite like it on the market.
What does Caption Cat do?
- Transcribe your videos using Whisper, an open-source AI model that delivers better results than DaVinci Resolve’s built-in transcription—especially in German.
- Animate subtitles with various presets and fully customize their look using Fusion effects.
Key Features:
✅ No monthly subscription—one-time purchase
✅ Works with DaVinci Resolve Studio (since 19.1)
✅ Supports manual subtitles, external SRT imports, and automatic transcription
✅ Fully customizable animations with Fusion presets
✅ Social media-safe zone overlays
Giveaway!
I’m giving away three Caption Cat licenses! To enter, just comment how you’d use Caption Cat for your content and include the secret codeword "Cat Content" in your comment. The winners will be announced next Sunday in the comments.
Try Caption Cat: You can download a free demo version to test it out. The full version costs $50 as a one-time purchase.
Important Note:
Due to changes in DaVinci Resolve 19.1, Caption Cat (like all similar plugins) now requires the Studio version. If you’re using an older version, it might still work in the free edition.
What do you think of Caption Cat? How do you currently create captions for your videos? Let me know in the comments! And if you have any questions, Mathias Möhl, the developer, might also jump in to answer.
