The Pain
Everyone makes mistakes. And every motion designer has sent one. The render with a solo switch still on inside a pre-comp, so half the scene silently vanished. The file that played silent because audio was off in the output module. The headline with a typo that survived three rounds of review.
None of these are hard problems. They are small problems that are easy to miss, and After Effects warns you about none of them. So the last step before render is always the same: scrub the timeline, squint at every switch, read every title out loud, and hope.
The Solution
PreFlight replaces that ritual with a button.
Press it, and it walks your comp and every nested pre-comp, runs 45 checks across text, composition, colour, audio, layers and the render queue, and shows you exactly what would have shipped wrong, graded by how much it matters: Fix, Review or Advisory. It is not a cleanup tool and it will not reorganise your project.
It answers one question: is this safe to deliver?
Every finding is a link
Click a result and PreFlight opens the comp, selects the layer and parks the playhead where the problem is actually visible, even three pre-comps deep. Fix it, click back onto the panel, and the finding crosses itself off. No re-run, no hunting.

A spell checker that speaks motion graphics
Spell checkers built for prose fall apart on motion graphics: ALL CAPS titles, brand names, hashtags, prices, URLs. PreFlight uses the same dictionary engine family as InDesign, wrapped in a tokeniser built for exactly this kind of text. When it is not sure, it stays quiet. When it flags something, it is worth reading.

45 checks, six categories
Everything is on by default and each check can be switched off or tuned. The strongest ones are the mistakes you cannot see in preview:
Text (5): spelling; common errors (doubled words, its and it's); consistency across layers; format consistency (dates, quotes, trademark symbols); empty text layers.
Composition (13): nested comps at mixed frame rates; work area not matching the content; empty frames in the delivery; comp vs output mismatches; frame rate, resolution and duration against your declared target; time remap freezes; safe margins; background transparency; a switched-off camera in a 3D comp; odd pixel dimensions; non-square pixels.
Colour (2): 16 or 32-bit projects heading to an 8-bit codec; CMYK images.
Audio (3): no audible audio when you expected sound; layers silenced by their level; duplicate audio.
Layers (15): solo left on; near-zero opacity; placeholders by name; watermarked or preview stock; a full-frame layer nudged pixels off the edge; content upscaled past its native size; large layers switched off; proxies left on; motion blur that will not render; guide layers used as content; adjustment layers left on; single-frame flashes; reversed layers; disabled expressions; TODO notes in markers.
Output (7): audio switched off in the output module; a leftover test render span; effects forced off in render settings; draft resolution or quality; a missing or temporary output path; low disk space on the render drive.
Honest by design
A checker you cannot trust gets switched off. PreFlight is built to earn the opposite:
- Target checks stay dormant until you declare a delivery spec, so the panel never nags about a target you did not set
- If the comp is not in the render queue, Output shows a dash: pending, not a pretend pass
- Precision over noise: when the spell checker is unsure, it skips silently rather than crying wolf

The author owns intellectual property rights in the Software Product. The Licensee's ("you" or "your") license to download, use, copy, or change the Software Product is subject to these rights and to all the terms and conditions of this End User License Agreement ("Agreement").
Acceptance

License Grant
This Agreement entitles you to install and use one copy of the Software Product. In addition, you may make one archival copy of the Software Product. The archival copy must be on a storage medium other than a hard drive, and may only be used for the reinstallation of the Software Product. This Agreement does not permit the installation or use of multiple copies of the Software Product, or the installation of the Software Product on more than one computer at any given time, on a system that allows shared used of applications, on a multi-user network, or on any configuration or system of computers that allows multiple users. Multiple copy use or installation is only allowed if you obtain an appropriate licensing agreement for each user and each copy of the Software Product.
Restrictions on Transfer
Without first obtaining the express written consent of the author, you may not assign your rights and obligations under this Agreement, or redistribute, encumber, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or otherwise transfer your rights to the Software Product.
Restrictions on Use
You may not use, copy, or install the Software Product on any system with more than one computer, or permit the use, copying, or installation of the Software Product by more than one user or on more than one computer. If you hold multiple, validly licensed copies, you may not use, copy, or install the Software Product on any system with more than the number of computers permitted by license, or permit the use, copying, or installation by more users, or on more computers than the number permitted by license.
You may not decompile, "reverse-engineer", disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code for the Software Product.
Restrictions on Alteration
You may not modify the Software Product or create any derivative work of the Software Product or its accompanying documentation. Derivative works include but are not limited to translations. You may not alter any files or libraries in any portion of the Software Product.
Restrictions on Copying
You may not copy any part of the Software Product except to the extent that licensed use inherently demands the creation of a temporary copy stored in computer memory and not permanently affixed on storage medium. You may make one archival copy which must be stored on a medium other than a computer hard drive.
Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability
UNLESS OTHERWISE EXPLICITLY AGREED TO IN WRITING BY THE AUTHOR, THE AUTHOR MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, IN FACT OR IN LAW, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OTHER THAN AS SET FORTH IN THIS AGREEMENT OR IN THE LIMITED WARRANTY DOCUMENTS PROVIDED WITH THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
The author makes no warranty that the Software Product will meet your requirements or operate under your specific conditions of use. The author makes no warranty that operation of the Software Product will be secure, error free, or free from interruption. YOU MUST DETERMINE WHETHER THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT SUFFICIENTLY MEETS YOUR REQUIREMENTS FOR SECURITY AND UNINTERRUPTABILITY. Limitation of Remedies and Damages
Any claim must be made within the applicable warranty period. All warranties cover only defects arising under normal use and do not include malfunctions or failure resulting from misuse, abuse, neglect, alteration, problems with electrical power, acts of nature, unusual temperatures or humidity, improper installation, or damage determined by the author to have been caused by you. All limited warranties on the Software Product are granted only to you and are non-transferable. You agree to indemnify and hold the author harmless from all claims, judgments, liabilities, expenses, or costs arising from your breach of this Agreement and/or acts or omissions.
Governing Law, Jurisdiction and Costs
This Agreement is governed by the laws of New York, without regard to New York's conflict or choice of law provisions.
Severability
If any provision of this Agreement shall be held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remainder of this Agreement shall remain in full force and effect. To the extent any express or implied restrictions are not permitted by applicable laws, these express or implied restrictions shall remain in force and effect to the maximum extent permitted by such applicable laws.
