Description

ReColor lets you instantly reveal layer colors used in an After Effects project and update them via hex values or the native AE color picker. It brings the ease of color management found in tools like Figma or Sketch directly into After Effects. With precise scope and targeting controls, ReColor streamlines color management in AE. No additional scripts or effects are added to your project assets, keeping your original layers, structure, and workflow completely intact.

Scan Options

The scan option determines the scope of the search and ‘change colors’ functions independently. The first set of options controls which comps the script searches in a project.

All Comps: Targets all comps in the currently open project file.

Active Comp: Targets the active composition and all precomps nested within it.

Selected Comps: This sets the scope to the comps selected in the AE project window only.

Targets

Target options specify which comp elements are included in the search and color change functions.

Fills: Includes shape fills, plugin effect Fills, and Layer Styles: Color Overlays.

Solids: Targets Solid layer colors, typically accessed via the Layer menu in After Effects.

Gradients: Currently supports the Gradient plugin effect only. When Adobe expands or updates After Effects’ gradient system, ReColor will be updated to support colors within shape layer gradients.

Strokes: Includes shape strokes, plugin effect Strokes, and layer style strokes.

Text & Text strokes: Targets text fills and text strokes on live text layers.

Keyframes: When enabled, color searching and updates apply to all keyframes. When disabled, colors are only read or changed if the current time indicator is aligned with a color keyframe.

Skip Obscured: When checked, if a “Fill” plugin effect is applied, the script will ignore any underlying strokes or fills.

Skip Disabled: When this option is checked, layers, effects, fills, etc. that are turned off (eyeball) in After effects, will be ignored by the script.

Search Results

Results of the search appear in the Colors field and are displayed as paired entries. The first entry shows the existing color and its hex value. The second entry is editable and defines the replacement color. Colors can be updated by entering a hex value or by using the native AE color picker, which is launched by clicking the color preview box next to the editable field.

Results can be sorted by Luminance, Saturation, or Hue. This can help to visually understand the color set and quickly identify which colors to update.
