🚀 Installation

Manager App (Recommended)

The easiest way to install and license is by using the aescripts + aeplugins Manager App.
It automatically installs updates, manages your license activations, and provides quick trial options.

Restart After Effects, then open: Window → Extensions → Voice2Captions


🎬 Quick Start

  1. Get your API key:
  2. Open Voice2Captions in After Effects and enter your API key, then click “Save Key” to store it. Make sure the log shows “API available: YES” before continuing.
  3. Select an audio or video layer with speech.
  4. Choose your language (or use Auto for detection).
  5. Click Transcribe Selected Layer(s).
  6. After processing, click Create Subtitles to generate text layers.
  7. Optionally, export subtitles as .srt files via the save icon.
  8. Important: Make sure any VPN, proxy, or network filtering service is turned off before running a transcription. Whisper and Groq API connections may fail or timeout when using VPNs or restricted networks.

⚙️ Settings Overview

  • Character Limit: Defines max characters per subtitle line (1–100).
  • Layer Mode: Choose single-layer (marker-based) or multi-layer subtitle creation.
  • Line Mode: One-line or two-line subtitles with smart word wrapping.

🌐 Supported Languages

Over 99 languages supported, including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Ukrainian, Arabic, Turkish, Polish, and more. Use “Auto” for automatic detection.


🛠️ Troubleshooting

  • No layers selected: Select an audio or video layer containing sound.
  • Invalid API key: Ensure correct format (gsk_ for Groq or sk- for OpenAI).
  • Subtitles not appearing: Check that transcription completed successfully and character limit is valid.
  • JSON Parse Error: Usually network-related; verify API key and connection.
