No outline using AI graphics

Hi, Recently I have experienced a problem. When ever I convert an illustrator file, I get no option to select a stroke. I'm left with a ? mark graphic instead of and outline join the top menu where you can select a colour. The only way to get a stroke I found is to manually add a stroke in the time line under options tab in the shape layer. This is very frustrating and time consuming. Any idea whats going on?? So weird. I have the latest version and on CC15. Used to work fine on the trial
