Starburst - path/spline emmission

I can not seem to get this plugin to work with the paths of a Null. Is this a bug? It works with masks only and lights. What does the Spline mode mean? is this a Shape layer path? if so, it doesn't work either. Is there any documentation for this plugin anywhere or tutorials?
