Search and replace footage in project?

    I have done quite a bit of searching here in the site but have found no usable solution. 

    lets say I have 7 pre-comps that all need to be replaced with one. The only problem is, those 7 pre-comps are used 15 times each throughout the project and it would take me forever to go in and replace the source footage of each of those by hand. Does any body know of a script that will do a search and replace for source footage in a project? This comes up regularly with the work that i do and would be nice to have something to automate this. 

    The scripts that I have tried and do not work are:
    AED Corner Cutters
    Batch search and replace paths (this works great for source footage outside of After Effects but not within AE)
    Templater

    If you alt-drag a comp on top of another comp in the project panel it will replace usage of it throughout the project.  Is that what you are trying to do? If not please describe in more detail what you are trying to do as it's hard to understand from your previous description
