AE Global Renamer 2
  • Hi Lloyd,
Loving the this plugin, saves so much time!

    I have a question,
Is it possible to rename all layers in a project with a specific layer index. What I mean is, searching in the entire project for layers with layer index 2 for example and renaming them to "Layer 2"?

My first thought was something like this, but didn't work:
    Search: [layer2name]
    Replace: layer 2

    Thanks!

  • Hi Lloyd!

    Great plugin!!!

    One question:

When I use two [num=##] in renaming, the second one uses the number index from the first one. Example:

    [num=00896]_example_[num=02]

    This will result in:

    00896_example_00896

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks!

  • Hi. Do you have an estimate when AE Global Renamer 2 will be updated to work on AE 2022, please? Many thanks.

Unfortunately you cannot use the same keyword twice but you can simply do the second one in a second renaming pass.

Btw, you will always get a much faster response by opening a support ticket :)

  • This is one of my go-to scripts! I *love* that I can search and replace a term in project wide expressions. I have one request: Can you add 'Output File Names' to the list of renamable items? I love that you can rename file paths, but I often want to regex a big render queue so I can quickly add version numbers, or replace words. Thank you!

The Render Queue footage paths include the output file name so you can just search and replace that. If you need more accuracy you can use a regex to only replace the last part of the path which is the file name. If you need help with this please let me know or open a support ticket for direct assistance: https://aescripts.com/contact/?product_id=1099&direct=1
  • Hey Lloyd,

Can you use this to rename footage file paths. I can't seem to see how to make that work. I can rename the name within the project item. But that is obviously just a label. If i want to rename my assets but do not want to relink all items. Am i missing something?

Footage paths are not editable, you would need to import the new footage. This is just the way AE works.

But you can try using Batch Search-n-Replace Paths to edit the XML project file.
  • Hi Lloyd, I get the message:'Unable to execute script at line 898. The URL is underfined' and receives a blank panel. Please help me solve this problem. Thanks

  • Amazing tool. Just wanted to note that my drop-down lists are super wide and extending out of the panel. I'm on AE 2023.
  • When exporting from the rendering queue to the png sequence, I want to erase something like
[######] that follows. What should I do?

Sorry not clear on what you want to do, but if you literally want to replace [######] then just search for that and replace it with whatever you want

What I'm trying to do is export all compositions to png, and each of them is exported like a 'stil image'. When you register in the AE's rendering queue, the file is named like the composite name_[########].

If you delete it through renaming and render it, it becomes PNG00000.

sorry I still don't understand what you're asking for the tool to do.
  • Where can I find the location of saved presets to backup/transfer to another computer?

Not in the current version but please open a support ticket and we can get you a beta version that can.
  • I feel like this should be apart of this tool but either isn't or I wasn't able to figure it out.

When renaming items, I feel like there should be an option to add a suffix/prefix that increases in number.

Like I have comp 1, comp a, comp red.
So I want to rename them all to something like
    render_001, render_002, render_003.

    Is this possible or no?

Yes it's definitely possible. Just use the [num=001] keyword.
Please note project items are renamed in the order they were selected.

  • This script has been so amazingly helpful I honestly don't know what I could do without it. I would like to suggest that, if possible, we can also Search/Rename 'Incoming File Paths' as well. I have a project that has hundreds of linked files that have all had a keyword changed. I'd LOVE to be able to search and replace that word in the incoming file path so the files all relink easily, rather than having to go through and relink each one manually.

  • Love this script.

I have a request. Is it possible to have it capable of replacing text in Essential Properties? For versioning I use the same text precomp, create an Essentials Graphics panel for the text source, and then change the Essential Property in the version comp.
