Cartoon Moblur
  • Love the effect but have to say I have never known a plugin to slow down rendering time so much. Is this a common issue or just my machine? I'm on a top spec 2017 Macbook Pro, admittedly not the fastest machine out there, but i've never has such long render times with any other effects or plugins. 7 hours to render a 15 second clip that uses 4 instances of Cartoon Moblur. Its a deadline killer!

    Hi Alex

Thanks for your feedback. Depending on the effect settings, it can be slow to render as you can create trails with multiple thousands of samples. That said, there are multiple quality settings to reduce the render time. If you like, please open a support ticket and I could take a look at your .aep and let you know if things could be optimized. https://aescripts.com/contact/?direct=1
  • Nice Plugin, BUT IT KILLS AFTER EFFECTS.
After 10 minutes AE is doing the weirdest Stuff!
Especially when alt-copy the effect to another Layer.

  • For some reason my most recent software combination (drivers, after effects version, or windows update, or whatever) Cartoon moblur has suddenly made After Effects unusable for me. I've had it for a couple years and it's never happened in the past, but now, if Cartoon Moblur is loaded as a plugin, it does terrible memory handling, and causes After Effects to crash after 5 or so minutes. To solve the problem, I just removed cartoon moblur from my plugins. Anyway, something needs to be done about the memory handling with RAM and Cartoon Moblur.

-Update: While cartoon moblur was causing a crash, the real killer was my graphics drivers. I did a fresh custom install through Nvidia geoforce experience, and that fixed things.

    Hi Jeremy
I apologise you're experiencing this issue. Could you please open a supoport ticket and let me know if you're on Cartoon Moblur v1.6 and which AE version you're on?
  • Hello! when my object leaves the screen, the trail also stops suddenly. But when the object leaves, there should still be a part of the trail visible as the object moves offscreen.
I would like the cartoon moblur trail also to smoothly leave the screen.

Is there a possibility to make this happen?
( instead of make all my composition bigger ... )

    Thanks!

    Hi Krista

Unfortunately this is hardcoded for performance reasons (less pixels = quicker render) so I'm afraid the easiest solution is to make the comp bigger.
  • Hi James, thanks for the answer. That's too bad, because I also realize it is not going to work with Collapse transformation.
So you really have to decide in the beginning of a project if you are going to use this effect.
Because you have to think about the size of the compositions beforehand.
And sometimes, you mix as you go, and think of nice effects later on.
But if your artwork depends on collapse transformation/vectors, that could give problems.

No worries. Yeah, some planning is required. I usually make the comp a bit larger than needed and then render from a resized comp. As you said this can get confusing if you have lots of nested comps and collapse xforms etc.
  • Hi,James.Recently I downloaded your plugin. It is very nice, but I tried to use it and I realized it doesn't seem to work for composition sometimes.
it only works with the Text layer and Shape layer. If you know a solution, Please let me know if you can.Thank you.

    Hi Sasaki

Please make sure you have continuous rasterization enabled, it sounds like that's the issue here. If not, please open a support ticket so I can assist you as soon as possible.
  • Any ideas what to do if I'm seeing the moblur in the comp but not in rendered video?

    Hi Rafael

Are you rendering with AME? One possibility is that AME was launched before moblur was installed, and as such it wouldn't be able to render. If that's not the case, could you please submit a support ticket so we can find a solution ASAP.
  • Hello :)

when I render out a version , I get this guide line 'X' across my animated object, is there something I can do to remove this from the final render?

  • Does it work on animated Type Layers? I dont get it to work. But awesome plugin anyway :)

    Hi Lars

If you apply it to text and the animation is happening via text animators, you'll need to set the mode to fixed samples and set the number of samples to the velocity of the text animation.

At it's default, the plugin would calculate the number of samples based on the layers velocity but in your case, the layer itself may be static and the individual characters are moving via text animators. Let me know if that makes sense or not.
  • it doesn't render for me either. I see it in the comp and can manipulate it well there, but when I render it's gone

    Hi Sofia

I can confirm it's working in Ae & Adobe Media Encoder 2024. Are you rendering through AME?

If it’s rendering in AE but not AME, I'd suggest restarting AME because if the plugin was installed/modified and AME was open, it hasn’t had a chance to load the plugin yet. Let me know how you go.
