How about other keyboard layouts (Dvorak/AZERTY/etc.) and other languages than english (Deutch/French/Russian/etc.)?
Hi Den,
There is already an option to choose between a QWERTY or an AZERTY keyboard layout. I imagine a DVORAK layout wouldn't be difficult to implement on a future update. Adding other languages is surely on the to-do list
v1.1 of keyboardFX is here with these useful additions and optimizations:
added: the DVORAK keyboard layout (you can now choose between the Qwerty, Azerty or Dvorak keyboard layout)
added: five lighting key animation presets
optimized: broadened compatibility. keyboardFX in now compatible with older versions of After Effects (CC + CS6)
changed: keyboardFX no longer uses the "Arial" font as the default
font for every text layer it generates. It will now use what ever font
is selected in the After Effects Character Panel upon generation.
keyboardFX has been updated to v1.2 and the list of additions, fixes and optimizations is huge!
v1.2 - Nov 24, 2019
fixed: a bug which prevented the complete generation of Commodore64 keyboards on AE CS6
fixed: the random preset for Commodore64 was not random. It now fixed.
fixed: a few typing errors on some of the presets
fixed: a bug where the custom input text field was locked on first run on AE CS6
fixed: carriage returns no longer mess the timing of the animations and properly light up the "Enter" key
fixed: the order of the layers became shuffled, if there were other existing layers in the timeline. It's now fixed.
fixed: some layer properties stayed open in the timeline after the
generation of the keyboard. It's now fixed and every property is closed
(twirled up)
changed: the glow and key layers are no longer locked
changed: renamed the effect control "Glow Decay" to "Glow Decay Speed" for better clarity
changed: smaller UI + a few cosmetic changes
added: the {{HOLD}} special code which allows the illumination of key combinations (like Ctrl+Alt+Del)
added: a second mode of controlling the keystroke animations through markers! (Using Markers Mode)
optimized: before generating any keyboard, keyboardFX checks the input text and informs the user about mistyped special codes
optimized: when deleting keyboardFX layers, expression errors are now suppressed
optimized: the -initial- typing speed and glow decay speed is
automatically adjusted at a comfortable pace of approximately 8
characters per second
optimized: redesigned progress bar that is more accurate, more
informative, and works both in window and in dockable panel mode. Also
added a enable/disable checkbox for it, in the settings tab (CS6 only)
optimized: compatibility with macOS Catalina
optimized: compatibility with After Effects 2020
optimized: instead of typing multiple {{PAUSE}} codes to further
prolong a pause you can now type {{PAUSE1}} through {{PAUSE30}} (the
same applies with the HOLD code)
Enjoy!

Can you turn off / hide via an opacity slider or checkbox the text on top of the keyboard so you can have a nondescript shapes only looking keyboard typing?

Hello Caine,
If you are referring to the texts on each key of the keyboard, yes you can choose not to generate any text layers. There is a checkbox in the "settings" tab. This does not affect the typing animations, meaning that the key shapes will illuminate just fine.
Please, download the trial version and test it out.
This looks absolutely gorgeous but a bit over my head as an AE newbie. I gather that QWERTY and AZERTY can be accommodated, which is great, but could you let me know how I would go about using this script for creating keyboard shortcuts displays for Screencasts content? I know it's overkill just for displaying keyboard shortcuts and probably too small if used as a quasi lower third, but it is so unique and beautiful I have to ask.
keyboardFX can definitely be used to show shortcuts. You have to create the animations with keyboardFX, render out the clips and then incorporate those clips in your ScreenCasts.
As you said, this might be a little bit tedious for screencasts and probably some real-time app can make you life a little bit easier.
On the other hand with keyboardFX you have complete control over the look of the keyboard/keys. You can render out 10-15 clips of the most common shortcuts and then use them accordingly in your online sessions.
You have to study a little bit the manual of keyboardFX, because for holding keys illuminated and illuminating non-character keys (like ALT or Ctrl) you must insert some special code into keyboardFX. (it's very easy, don't worry)
I strongly suggest trying out the trial version and see if keyboardFX suits your needs. Also don't forget that CyberMonday is VERY close
Sorry for the late "thank you". I did not get a notification from aescripts that you answered.
Real-time apps do not work for me: look & feel, little control over display time and location, too much recorded. I was going to do my own set of "lower thirds". I think KeyboardFX is gorgeous and it is worth the tediousness. I'll download a trial and see if I can get my act together by Monday!
Hello! Looking forward to buying this awesome plug-in, but have a small question before making a purchase. Is it possible to manually change any letter on the keyboard? So if I want to change "H" button to be a "T", for example, and also I want it to be written in another font, is this doable?

Hello Maksim,
The letters on the keyboard are just plain text layers that you can edit them.
As for the font, when you hit "Generate Keyboard!", keyboardFX uses whichever font you have selected on the "Character Panel".
You can also select all the text layers that keyboardFX creates, and change the font to whatever you like.
I strongly suggest you download the free 7-day trial and test it out and see if it covers your needs.

v1.50 is out!
Can you please tell me the exact version of After Effects you are you using?
Also, can you try doing the following:
v1.51 is up!
-fixed: an issue where on some AE installations, keyboardFX would freeze on setting-up expressions
-fixed: an issue where keyboardFX would not set the Arial Font name properly for the generated text layers
Enjoy!
- Have you checked this checkbox in the settings tab?
