Discotext is a trim paths plugin for live text layers, allowing you to trim, offset, stagger and clone your text layers with controls that feel familiar to every After Effects user.
Hello! Is there an update in the works? I would love to have the positioning issues addressed. It changes positions when effects (glow) or layer masks are applied to the layer with the discotext effect.

Hi Greg!
I just implemented a fix for that thanks to your comment, should be public in a day or two (just gotta test it out on some different hardware). Regards.
Does this work with masks? For example I copy some paths from Illustrator and paste them on a solid in AE can I apply this effect?
Hi Samuel
It currently only works with text. I was thinking that since there's shape layer repeaters, much of the functionality can already be achieved. Do you think it would be good to have it work with masks?
Hey I've noticed that the stroke color isn't 100% accurate.
If I have a text layer set to a certain color - duplicate layer - apply discotext and change disco's color to the bottom layer's color.... it's slightly off.
I have 100% quadruple checked that colors, layer mode, opacity etc are all fine.

Hi Zach
Thanks for your comment. I replicated this, hopefully will have a hotfix out this week sometime.
Just wondering if you could have offset for the repeater as well as scale? That way we could have paths that "outline" the text instead of just scaling from the anchor point.

Thanks so much for a WONDERFUL tool!!!!
Hi Suzanne
Thanks for your idea. Would this be to create some sort of "echo" of each path, where each repeat gets larger? In that case, some sort of anchor per path would be required. An interesting idea for sure.
Unlike the example video that showcases DiscoText, Discotext doesn't actually work in 3D. I have handy cam have set it and turned words to 3D.... nothing happens, I turn DiscoText off and 3D works.
Thanks,
Dave
PS If I'm wrong or doing something wrong please let me know.

Hi David
That's correct, the "3D text effect" was created by using the offset cloner controls inside of Discotext and scaling the copies down to give it faux perspective. If you would like a refund just let me know in a support ticket.

Hi James, No I don't want a refund as I actually love the plugin, its just a bit of a shame that it doesn't work in 3D, I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. But anyway great plugin. dave
Hi there, Unfortunately the plugin seems to be a bit unstable on a Mac M1 as of now, it seems to crash under different circumstances when keyframing scale and rotation of the main text layer.
Also an offset slider for the x, y repeater would be more than welcome in my opinion. Or the option to center the "master" text relative to its copies.
Fill text with offset would be awesome too, by characeter, word, line. Not certain if this is even possible but it would be extremely useful.

Hi Screech
Thanks for your comment. I have identified the issue, could you please email [email protected] so we can send you a fix for testing?
Your feature suggestions I can see being very useful, we will consider them in a future version.
I've tried upgrading to After Effects 22.2 and 22.3, but it keeps crashing. After sending the crash log file to an Adobe emplyee, he told me that Discotext was the cause of the crash. Is there a workaround? And would you like to see that crash log file?

For anyone else reading this, this crash has been addressed in v1.2.3
Nice plugin but I am not sure how you achieved the image where the text fills the entire screen. The only way I found it possible is to create multiple text and add discotext effect on each one or create one pre-compose it and then use motion tile to fill the screen. Would have been cool to have a Repeater for Repeater option. Then you can create one row and after that duplicate left or right that way you can quickly fill the entire screen. Please let me know if I am missing something and there is an easier way to fill the entire screen with text. Thank you
Hi, I just saw a comment from couple of years back about working with paths/masks. Has this been added lately? It would be a great and super handy addition. Thanks!

Hi Mihai
This is possible with our soon to be released repeater plugin which is compatible with other plugins

Hi Viliam
Thanks for your suggestion, yes that is a future consideration but currently it is not supported.
