• Any plans to make project oriented tutorial to support this script? I'm new to Cinema 4D, so I haven't developed a C4D to AE workflow yet. I bought this AEC4D the day it came out just in case I might need it in the future. I get the gist (to some degree) from the overview video but would love to see a full project created using the script. Hope to see more... Thanks!
You're absolutely right, Bryan! Just showing cubes isn't showing the whole potential of this plugin. :) I would love to show some more project orientated cases... however, i can't find the time for it right now, hopefully in the near future!!!
  • 太棒了这个插件~~~Awesome this plugin ~ ~perfect~!!
    Thanks! Great to hear!!!

Unfortunately it isn't possible to set those values... :(

    Hey Bryan,
there are a lot of usecases for this script. If you are new to C4d you might want to just search the net for C4d to After Effects Workflow and when they talk about using the extract method in Cineware of the export option through AEC use this script to get the data over. Resources you might want to try are HelloLux, the PixelLab, Cineversity orpaid sites like fxphd, Lynda,...

In a nutshell: you can create your 3d scene in cinema and render it with your prefered render engine. After that bring the passes in AFX and using this script you can get access to the lights, cameras and pos,rot data of certain objects. This way you are able to place stockfootage, logos, text,... in 3d space into the scene and those track nicely with everything else you set up in 3d.
Another way to use this script is to setup a whole scene using proxy elements (nulls, cubes, spheres, elements from the content browser,...) in c4d, export the data to afx and than simply replace or link your elements( photos, logos, illustrator files, Element 3d particles, Particle Emitters, Lense Flare centers,...) to the Nulls/Solids you now have in your scene. You can also bounce back and forth between the programs to see if you like what you've setup or if you need anything else.
Hope that helps to get you started.

    Ok no problem.

I've noticed that the script "only" takes into acount if the scale values changes. But if you animate the size values of parametric elements it doesn't come over. Is there a way to get those changes also exported using this script or should we better animate the scale paramter instead?

Yes, the scale functionality will set the Width and Height of the Solids (Auto-Scale or Scale-Slider) and these values, can not be animated. If you want to work with specific size values, set those up upfront and use the scale parameter.

Thank you for your insight! I'll definitely look into the sites you suggested. I've purchased a Udemy course that deals with the C4D to AFX workflow. Thanks again!
  • How about the option to save a .jsx file so that it can be shared with co-workers? I mean you could also sent them a afx project file that got the data from the script but I guess a .jsx is a bit smaller in file size.

Just go into your AEC4D Folder and under "settings" you will find "AEC4D_TEMP.jsx". Just send this file to any of your co-workers! It will create a new one with every export...

  • This plugin is so fantastic! I have had no trouble with it. A coworker of mine tried it and it worked a few times. Now he gets an error when the script tries to open the AE file that "file exists but couldn't be open for reading."

As far as I can tell, we have the same settings. Is this a read/write persmissions thing? But then why did it operate correctly at one point?

Hey Tiffany, first of all it's great to hear that you like the Plugin!
Can you (or your coworker) please open up a Support-Ticket, so that i can investigate a little better..? Please provide a screenshot of C4D's console as well: Script->Console..

    Thanks!

  • Is this basically a shortcut of creating an aec file in C4D and importing that file into AE? Or are there any other advantages?
  • this looks awesome! has anybody tested it with R13?
  • Hey Lasse,
any chance to also make a version for BlackMagic Fusion as AECs can be exported for it as well?

    Best
  • I spent the weekend using the script to transfer morph camera data for an Element 3D project. Exporting and importing AEC files and then applying to your scene is a time suck. This makes iteration possible and fluid - What an awesome script. Love it - Great work!

would love to know this aswell...! :) has anyone tested it with R13, yet?

This would require a lot of rewriting of the original code. Don't think this will happen anytime soon, sorry!
  • I tried to use the trial but nothing happens when I click the icon. Also when I try to go into settings to select my version of AE, it will allow me to select my version (2017) it will not allow me to hit ok after selecting the version. Only way to get out of the settings window is to click the red X. Any suggestions?

Hey Mark, sorry for your troubles.
As documented, you need to have read/write rights for your plugin-folder.
Please open up Edit-> Preferences -> Open Preferences-Folder/plugins/ you're safe to copy the plugin into here and you're good to go!

  • Very nice plugin thank u very much.

Installation is a bit tricky at windows (read/write). I did this (enabled "write" in the security tab) to plugins folder and to aec4d folder inside, and i couldnt setup anything. Only thing that worked for me is running c4d as admin (which i d like to avoid cause of some server issues in the past). Can u help me out here plz?

Also, I d really appreciate, since its very common to send planes a lot of the time, to have the -Z happen automatically during export if possible. Cause this is kinda confusing and time consuming once u have a complete scene and not do something from scratch.

    Thanks ;)
  • Hi, this has stopped working since I've installed CC2018. Any advice?

that is unfortunate. Can you please open up a Support-Ticket, so that i can investigate a little better..? Please provide a screenshot of C4D's Console as well: Script -> Console..

EDIT: Works for me though... So it probably hasn't something to do with CC2018.

  • Is this basically a shortcut of creating an aec file in C4D and importing that file into AE? Or are there any other advantages?
I think the fact that you can work on an object to object basis is the main advantage? Also hopefully it fixes some of the wonkiness that happens when you import a camera sometimes. But I would love to know the precise advantages as well- the demo video seems a little basic.

Also- AEC?? You can use CineWare to import your C4D file directly and then extract objects that way. Much smoother/faster experience
  • For every user who might have problems since CC2018:
Don't forget to update the path to your new AfterFX.exe / AfterFX.app !!!

Ctrl-Click and simply adjust your current "AE-Path" within the Settings.
    Easy fix.

    Cheers,
    Lasse

@Ryan: I think it's quite misleading what you're saying. There are a lot of advantages compared to CineWare, for me at least...

    Some of the main advantages:
    – 1-Click-Export of selected Objects.
    – NO! pre-baking of Objects required.
    – Many additional Import-Options (Planes as Solids with Color etc.)
    – Works with older Versions of both Programs (CS6/R15)

For a quick turnaround of exchanging lot's of Cameras, Nulls & Lights, AEC4D is much much faster than CineWare. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact me, I'm happy to answer them.

    Thanks & Cheers,
    Lasse
  • Hi,
I got it working. I didn't realise there were any adjustable settings for the plugin. I just needed to update the location of After Effects.

    Thanks!

  • Hi,
When I try to change the settings, the preference window don't close when i push OK and I can't work anymore so I must force the closing of C4D!!! I tried both to set CC2017 and CC2018 on both C4D R18 and R19...

    tnx in advance,

Hi Fabio, sorry for your troubles.
It is probably because of the read/write rights for your plugin-folder.
Please open up Edit-> Preferences -> Open Preferences-Folder/plugins/ you're safe to copy the plugin into here and you're good to go!

If that doesn't do the trick, please open a support ticket and provide a screenshot of your console. Script -> Console...

  • Will AEC4D work with the C4D Lite that comes with AE?  I think I recall that C4D Lite doesn't support plugins ...
  • That's right, C4D Lite doesn't support plugins therefore AEC4D will not work in the Lite Version.
  • Thanks mate! I was wondering why is this stopped working!!

  • Any chance on a c4d to nuke version?
  • Does this plugin work with Camera Morphs in C4D?
  • Does this plugin work with Camera Morphs in C4D?
    Yes, it does! :)
  • My most favourite plugin so far  :) Does what it is supposed to do and already saved me sooo much time!
Thank you so much for this great tool!
  • Sounds great! :)
But does anyone know how to get a parallel camera from C4D into AE?
or does this plugin also take care of that?
  • Hi,

Looking forward to using it, but I also found I had trouble with the preference window when I press "OK" and "CANCEL." I tried looking at the image you supplied to a previous comment, but the link is broken. Can you show that again?

    Thanks
  • Sorry, also meant to say I'm using C4D r17. I also installed it through the preferences folder within C4d as you mentioned here as well.
  • Hi i have an issue. Every time i press the button to send scene from c4d, it opens AE and asks me to save the file. Whatever option i press, either "save", "not save", or "cancel", AE closes instantly. Im using R19 and AE 2018
  • Hoping this be will be compatible with R20 - I've really grown accustomed to this little time-saver...
  • Hi, love the script just one big issue with it so far for me. All my comps in my current projects rely on it being a 23.976 working environment, if I bring in an object from C4D utilizing your script the translation is off and the objects drift. If I set my comps to pure 24fps everything works fine, unfortunately I can't set all the preexisting comps to 24 because of bigger workflow issues. Is there a way to dictate which frame rate it adheres to upon exporting?

I think it is an C4d thing as you can only export whole frames from the program. I don't think you can set or get it to render 23,976
