I have wanted to buy this many times but I really am looking for animated PNG format. It's way better! Even Giphy, the leader of gif placement worldwide, actually uses animated PNGs and has for years. APNGs are widely supported and they are also great for iPhone sticker apps. The available tools for making APNGs are really wonky. There is a need!

Hi Jor,
We actually experimented with adding APNG even with GifGun 1 but we did not ship it for some reasons.
Thank you for the nudge, we will definitely add APNG as a new option with the following updates.
I'm finding a bug where if you stop a GIF, say mid render, Gifgun then stops functioning. You have to close and restart AE for it to start working again.

Hi James,
This is peculiar, since GifGun uses After Effects in such a way that you should not be able to stop the render.
May I ask you to open a support ticket and send a screen recording of this behavior?
Hi! Thank you for your work on this amazing extension. I would like to give some feedback on something though.
For the feedback I'd like to suggest either a wider drop-down menu for render presets or a hover-over pop-up that shows the entire render preset's name. I have no idea what kind of H.264 I'm rendering with these given options:

Hi Patrick!
Thank you for the suggestions. We are actually releasing an update 2.0.12 with the presets behavior fixed. We will add a super quick preset switching in the following updates as well.
Finally got going with GifGun2. Am I right in realizing that GG2 does not support anything over 256 colors for gifs? That was literally the only reason I wanted to own GifGun before...to make high quality gifs. So I just paid $20 to not have this feature anymore? I guess last version it was available in "Use Experimental Features", and it allowed for basically losless gifs....
Please correct me if I'm wrong, I would like to be wrong.

Hi Scott,
We have moved this feature to "Preserve colors per frame" checkbox. It still has a limitation of 256 colors for each frame though.
I am still using gifgun1. I really do n’t know why I need to enter a license every time I open AE. Do n’t you think it ’s so annoying? I'm really annoying!

Hi, an Lisi.
GifGun 1 is a discontinued product, and it won't receive any compatibility updates in the future. We also can't provide comprehensive support for your case, though judging by its description, something might be wrong with your machine access policies.

Hi, I really appreciate the ongoing improvements to GifGun 2. I saw that you added some new export formats lately. One other format I would like to suggest is animated WebP images, as they are like GIF but much more efficient.

Hi Andrew,
We've added WebM format that is basically the same as webp, but VP9 instead of VP8.
I know this may seem like a newb thing, but I was pulling my hair out trying to get a 1920x1080 15sec animation to a gif that is under 1MB. I had done it before and couldn't for the life of me figure out why it wasn't working now. I thought it must have been the upgrade from GIFgun to GIFgun2. Nope, it was because it was someone else's file and I didn't realize they were working in 32 bit. I changed it to 8 but and BOOM, works. There really should be a warning message that pops up when trying to export a gif that if you are in 16bit or 32bit, it suggests you lower to 8 bit for best performance. That would be what some would call making for a good user experience, just saying

Hi Ryan,
Thank you for this insightful finding. GIF is a 256-colors format, so in theory it should not matter what is the color depth of the original composition.
Given that, switching the project color space to 8bit from 16/32 bits indeed allows you to save 8-10% of the file size (not sure why).
However, with compression enabled, there is no size difference. When working on your GIF size, we recommend setting Compression to the Low level.
We will add an 8/16/32 bit notice to the future GifGun releases so that there is no ambiguity.
Hi! I chose a comp size of 112x112, but when I selected the Hight Quanlity with Alpha option, my .GIF file was 24x36. Why is there this difference and how can I have a .GIF file with a transparent background of size 112x112?

Hi Minh,
Apparently, Windows file information does not display GIF with alpha resolution correctly. You may rest assured that GifGun does not resize a file if you do not ask it to do so. Tools like MediaInfo are better at displaying the proper file information, and you can also use your web browser for that.
We are aware of the issue, and we will keep an eye on fixing it in the future releases.
I have installed the plugin and when I am in the after effects and click on window -> extensions -> and open the gifgun plugin the panel opens but in black. I have After effects 2020 and I installed it using your installer

I followed the instructions in your reply about enabling debugging but I still just get a black box with no controls. I'm using a trial version of the plugin
I have a 12fps comp but when I make a GIF it plays back very slow or at half speed. I tried setting to 10, 12.5fps, and "As Comp," and get the same result each time.

Is there a setting I'm missing?
Thanks
Hi Michael,
The 12.5 FPS options should suffice. Are you experiencing this issue while viewing the GIF in the web browser?
I'm trying to use gifgun2 with Ae 2024 (on mac). I haven't been able to get it to work yet. It just creates folders with nothing in them. Is anyone else having this issue? I would go back to good ole fashioned gifgun 1, but it doesn't seem to install through Aescripts + Aeplugins. This is really messing up my workflow.

PC question. Is there a way to have normal file explorer windows when you search for a path, and not that really evil disgusting "windows 98" like window?
It was an issue also with gifgun 1 and I hoped it was fixed in the 2 version..

Hi Luca,
I feel your pain. And unfortunately, we have to go with what Adobe framework gives us. It hasn't changed for years, and there's no workaround but writing our own file explorer which is a feat in itself.
As soon as we can make this part better, we will do it.

After some consideration we actually came up with a not great not terrible but much better solution! Wait for the next GifGun update.
hi i tried to render a gif using high quality with lossless to get a transparent background, but ended up with dimensions of only 1 x1, whereas, my composition settings are 500x500. is there any solution for this problem ?

Hi Anak,
This is an issue with Windows Explorer preview, the Gifs are fine, but for some reason, Gifs with alpha turn up to have broken metadata. We are working on fixing this for the future releases.
I’m producing alot of Gifs for email marketing with a blue background but sometimes the color deviates from the original color when exporting.
This happens even though the settings are the same - is there any fix for this?
Right now i have to test between "Lossless" and "High quality" to get the right color.

Hi Christian,
May I ask you to enable "Preserve Colors per Frame" to enforce more color consistency? This option will generate one 256 color paletter per frame, not per whole animation.

Hey Nik,
Thanks for the quick reply!
I haven't tried it yet, but definitely will - does this do anything to file size though?
I would love the ability to queue multiple exports at once, when you need to export a bunch of gifs it gets really tedious with the autosave before adding to render queue, waiting for the first gif to finish, etc.

Hi Nick,
You can select multiple compositions in the Project panel and click on Make GIF - that will put them all in a queue and render compositions one by one.
Could use some help. no matter what I do, I can not get anywhere near as close as quality as marketing images/examples. I consistently get terribly bad jagged edges, yet when I do the process manually (export video, then photoshop) its tons better. a
Is there a way to keep it from compressing so much?
