Hello, anytime I try to enable Alpha channel my AE2022 crashes. It's a fresh install. Please help! Win 10 x64
Hi Edward,
This is an issue with the latest AE version (22.5). We are aware of it and now fixing the issue. There is a workaround though that does not involve reinstalling older AE version:
Open After Effects and from within it open GifGun_Alpha_Png.aep file located at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects 2022\Support Files\Scripts\ScriptUI Panels\(gifGun), and save it for the most recent AE version. You might need to save it on Desktop and then manually replace the said file.
This solves the issue. We are going to fix this shortly though.
Nik
I've tried all your recommendations, including the render queue preset workaround and 300x300+3sec, and nothing works. I continue to get the error, with only a mov file exporting. Please provide a reliable fix asap.
GifGun wont even open for me. I've uninstalled and reinstalled but when I go to Windows > GifGun I get an error message that says "Unable to execute script at line 3212. null is not an object"
I'm in AE 2022 with Windows 11. Just updated to the new Gifgun version. It barely works... it exports the .mov but wont make the actual .gif. Usually won't even get that far and just breaks in AE. Make updates that work or just stop updating the plugin so then I don't have to rely on it anymore.

I have the same error message and have uninstalled Dropbox but am still getting the same issue when I restart AE. Any suggestions? Thanks
That error means that After Effects is not able to read/write to the file system so check if you have a firewall or some kind of permissions that would be restricting this.
If you need further assistance please open a support ticket

Hi Brandon,
Please make sure you are using GIfGun 1.7.24. It is tested on Win 11, so there might be some other issue.
I have to constantly restart After Effects for this to work properly. How can I fix that?
Hi Joon,
Please make sure you are using the latest GifGun version. It also seems like you might be rendering large compositions as GIFs and they take more time to compile. Here's a quick troubleshooting guide:
First, do the test with 300 by 300 pixels 3 seconds long composition. If it works, then you just need to give GifGun more time to compile the animation. Long compositions with large resolutions tend to take more time to compile.
Also, uncheck "Keep Alpha" or "Use Experimental Engine" and select [UPDATE PRESETS] option in the Render Preset dropdown. That might help to get things running. If that does not work, please open a support ticket
There Seems to be a preset issue We have opened GifGun settings for you, unchecked keep alpha or use expermental engine and select update preset in the render preset dropdown then relaunch after effects and try again
I tried everything and i cant manage too get this too work
I am very frustrated, I need to export GIFs now, my client is waiting, and GifGun latest update does not process alpha. What should I do?
Hi Erick,
This could be the issue with preset:
Can you please open this file with After Effects and render item from this project.
After that restart AE and check if the Alpha will be working for you?
location of file: /Applications/Adobe After Effects 2022/Scripts/ScriptUI Panels/(gifGun)/GifGun_Alpha_Png.aep
The reason why it's failing most probably because Adobe broke some compatibility with previous versions, and we spent a lot of time debugging this to make it work in all of the cases, but looks like it still failing

I use Gif Gun for GIF-Sticker on giphy. Therefore it would be desirable to have a separate export setting for GIF stickers. Are you planning to save custom export settings?
And also a transparency check according to the giphy requirements?
Hello, in the last month or so, when I render a gif through gif gun to upload to a google doc for preview, the gif ismactually bigger than the mp4 I render of it. Is there an optimum setting I should be using?
Hi, every time I try to make a GIF, a box pops up and says "Render Queue is not empty. You should clean it before making GIF with GifGun? Clean Render Queue for you? OK or NOPE" No matter what I click, it will not render. My Render Queue is empty. I don't know why I'm all of a sudden getting this error.
Hey I am having an issue with GifGun. When trying to render multiple comps at once it throws up an error of "The name of the selected output module is already in use" Any idea how to get around this? As have a fair few gifs to render. Cheers!

Hi Ollie,
This is a pretty weird issue, we are definitely going to help you in a ticket that you've opened.

Hi! In order to get a lower GIF size, you should reduce its size, FPS and increase the level of compression. mp4 s always going to be a more optimal format in terms of compression though.

Hi Philippe,
To be honest, we never thought of it. Going to implement that in the upcoming GifGun 2.0
Using GifFun v1.7.24 on a Mac and my gifs are coming out pixelated. It is animations I made before in AE with photos, and they looked great, but I needed to update the copy on them and now they look bad. Any idea what's going on? I changed all the settings around but nothing helped.

Hi Janell,
GIF is not particularly great with gradients. Try our Experimental render feature, it should help.
If you don't mind me asking, when is GifGun 2.0 approximately looking to release? I'm on the fence on getting it and the 2.0 release might push me over.

Hi Jonathan,
We plan to release this winter. The testing and tuning are underway.
Hey! Love the plugin. I recently updated to AE 23 and updated this plugin accordingly. Been running into an issue where the "make a gif" process runs, creating the folder of .pngs, but then the module is stuck at "99%" and does not continue on to produce a gif. When I close the Gifgun module, an error pops up reading "Unable to execute script at line 1. Object is invalid." Any ideas? I'm on an M1 Macbook with plenty of space, I'm generally including alpha on the gifs I'm making.
Hi, when you click the destination path for the file, it always goes to the root of my computer rather than opening locally. This is a pretty big waste of time every day when I need to save Wips in a daily folder. Is there any plans to update this so that the default destination is the last place you selected?

Hi Alex,
The folder selector window is a system folder that can't be really modified or controlled.

Hi Hafsah,
Have you installed the version 1.7.26? We've tested it on M1 extensively.
When GifGun is hanging and you reopen it, this is going to result in "Unable to execute script at line 1. Object is invalid." error every time.

I have seen that the compatibility does not include After effect CS6, but on the main page it says "We hunted small bugs and fixed infrequent issues. We also improved CS6 compatibility in case you use it." Does this mean that even if it is not checked it is still compatible with CS6?
Please make sure you are using the latest GifGun version. It also seems like you might be rendering large compositions as GIFs and they take more time to compile.
