• Hi Extrabite! Thanks for this fantastic tool - it's saved me many hours to date and I'm looking forward to it only getting better.

A few items: first, how does batch render work? I see that it should be working as of version 1.6.1, but don't see any mention of the process in the manual and whenever I have more than one item in the render queue GifGun will offer to clean the render queue. I know, I know: open a ticket. :D I will, but also wanted to ask here in case others come looking for the same answer.

Second, a feature request: with regard to batch render, it would be great to be able to output multiple versions of the GIF with different settings, much like the legacy export from Photoshop has the ability to optimize to file size, but saving each iteration. I.E.: 128 colors @ 10FPS, 256 colors @ 10FPS, 128 colors @ 20FPS, 256 colors @ 20FPS, etc.

Third, bonus points! Adding the option to include the parameters as part of the destination file name ("tokens" or "wild cards") would be a much welcome addition. I.E.: for the comp "banner-option-01" I might set up the tokens as follows:

    [compName]_[renderEngine]_[numberOfColors]_[frameRate]_[compressionLevel].[ext]

    The resulting file name:

    banner-option-01_standard_256_10_medium.gif

If combined, these two features would make me very willing to buy a paid upgrade.

    Thanks in advance!
    -Chris
    Hi Chris,

First of all, thank you for your fantastic feedback!

I am happy you asked, let me go through all of that, so

Batch render is working pretty "native", as soon as you have more than 1 item selected, GifGun will create Gif for each of those chosen compositions. The only downside of it that you can't make separate settings for each Gif, same settings will apply for each Gif in selection. We should better communicate with users regarding how it works, I agree :)

The multiple export settings and tokens/wildcards is a bit out of the scope of our vision GifGun as a product, but that's precisely the area where we see our next product BG Renderer Max (https://bgrenderer.com/about), the next version/update of https://aescripts.com/bg-renderer/

we are still in private beta, and gifgun integration planned for a first release, but the wildcards and multiple settings for same flow planned for a next iteration.

It's fantastic that you asked, it means we have the same vision for a good workflow in After Effects!

    Thank you again,

    Mike

  • Hello GifGun Team,

Wondering if there is plan for an update that would allow for someone to have a specific amount of loops, but also have an alpha?

For some reson when you have Infinite loop UNCHECKED the Mac OS still loops the animation forever. Subsequently when importing the gif to Power point it too loops an animation forever.

    Thank you.

  • Hello GifGun Team I have a question, I want this pluggin but I have a question,
Can I export an animation with alpha with this pluggin?

  • Hi! I downloaded and installed the trial version, but I can't get it to work. It seems to get stuck after rendering the video file. It always hangs at the following screen: https://prnt.sc/o0zxjx .. And in the GifGun panel it says "Here it comes", but without any progress indicator. Any ideas? Thanks! (I changed comp name to TEST and still no luck).

Could you please share a bit more info via opening a ticket? I have tried to repro the issue but seems working for me.

    Hi Carlos,
Thank you for a valid feedback! I agree that this is a missing functionality at this moment, I am planning to add this with next updates. Somehow it was out of my radar.

    Hi Daniel,
I haven't seen this before, but after googling a bit, it looks like a some unwanted program https://www.virusresearch.org/soundmixer-exe-removal-guide/
Please try to remove it and reinstall Gifgun
    Hope it helps.

  • Hey

Totally love this tool. Massive labour saver. Great work! :)

I do lots of gifs for a client who has a white background on their website and emails  When I render out Lossless 256 gifs with white backgrounds the white comes out with a little speckle of #fcfcfc colour. Is there a way to keep whites as #ffffff ?

I use latest AE and GIFGUN on mac. Happy to share projects and gifs.

    Thanks
    Steven

  • Hello, using the script for a month now, no issues so far. Just a question. The feature of "pixelart" what does it do exactly?

    P.s: great work

Hi Steven, Thank you very much for a feed back!
If it's possible, could you please create a ticket and share a project privately with us so we can follow up with you. That would be amazing!

    Thank you again,

Hi Francisco, thank you for a feedback!
Pixelart feature is our approach to render without any aliasing applied, this feature is mostly used by pixel art designers and allow them to keep straight lines and colors in resulting Gifs.

  • Hi, I just downloaed GIFGUN.

How long of the video can I export?
I wanted to export 12seconds video and it only exported 2seconds of it.

  • Hi,

I've encountered the "Save the project first" issue again, but this time it's not resolved by rendering anything with GifGun closed. It switches between that message and one I hadn't seen previously "Render queue is not empty. You should clean it before making Gif with GifGun." I manually clear the render queue and then get the save the project message again.

Any tips on how to resolve as we're currently unable to use the plugin.

    Cheers!
    Rob
  • Hi,
    Awesome plugin. Thankyou so Much.
It would be great if GIFgun could recognize static frame and optimize better.
the thing is, I have 5 images of 960x960 each appearing at an interval of 20frames.(@25fps)
When I export a gif with Photoshop its somewhere around 1mb
whereas in aftereffects with Gifgun the same export is around 5mb.

hope u have understood the issue here.

    Thanks,
    Vinay Goenka

  • Hello!!!!
I love this tool. And I work with her a lot.
I have a doubt: when I export in lossless with alpla and see it in a browser (firefox, chrome, safary) it appears with a transparent gray background.
I know there is another option that is keep alpha, but it usually increases a lot of weight.
Can you help me find the solution to export the gif in alpha by compressing in lossless whit alpha?

    Hi Raul,
So basically if you do not use Keep Alpha, even though you set Lossless with Alpha as a preset, GifGun ignores the alpha part. And indeed, transparency adds weight to GIF, it's hard not to. You may use compression feature to reduce the weight though.

    Hello Larry,
I can confirm that there is somehow issue with 1.7.9 version on Windows and we didn't found it during internal testing.
Could you please open a support ticket and I will send you new version with fixes

Thank you and sorry for broken experience,

  • Hey folks!

I just installed the trial for macOS and I noticed the same looping bug (as in, it doesn't).

I'm going to hold off purchasing a licence until the fix is released, and I was wondering if you had a guess for when that'll be?

    Thanks!

  • Hi just downloaded gifgun. Its rendering the video but not the gif. Error messages are unable to execute script object line 1 invalid. Then engine error on the window where it says here it comes. I’ve tried restarting and reinstalling but no luck I’ve trie both cc2018 and 2019 both has the same problem. Can anyone help?
  • Not only a great program, but great support staff! I've been using GifGun for a while now since I make a ton of gifs for client social media. Its saved me so much time in the long run it paid for itself many times over. After the 2020 update for AE GifGun no longer looped gifs for me. I sent in a ticket and within minutes got a response from Nik with team Extrabite. After a brief exchange he recognized the issue and the next day there was an update with a fix!

Great companies are handled by great people. These guys deserve the highest praise for their work. Keep it up guys!

  • Hey folks! Thank you for fixing the infinite loop bug! I found another one for you.

When I went into the settings and checked on the "Infinite Loop" box, the dialog froze up and I needed restart After Effects to get it back.

After a bit of experimenting, I realised that the "Framerate" option is empty by default, and I need to select a value in there to prevent the app crashing.

Even if I select "15" then save the settings, it's empty again the next time I open the settings.

    Hi Cariad,

Thank you very much for bringing up this issue!
It looks like this is the case for trial version, I can confirm that there is a problem with a framerate for gifs in version 1.7.10.
I have included a fix for it into next version, 1.7.11 and it should be released tomorrow, I believe.

    Thank you again,
    Mike

  • Hi, and thank for this awesome tool.
Just noticed that the gifs done with experimental engine checked, don't loop, vs when its unchecked, its looping seamless.
Any clue on what's causing this ?
    Thx!
  • Hey guys, I love supporting what you're doing; GIF Gun has seriously cut down so much time on my animation work. Thank you for creating this amazing program. Do you guys think adding a metadata option to GIF Gun's settings would be doable? I rely on metadata to pretty much protect my work from being stolen online.

    Thanks!

I've updated to the newest version of GifGun and After Effects. I suspect it's because of a compatibility issue with Catalina, but I'm not quite sure. Any idea on how this can be fixed?

    Thanks!

  • Anyone solve the problem with engine error?

    MacOS 10.13.6 High Sierra
    AE 17.0.0 (Build 557)
  • Running Win10 and AE CC 2019

Any time I try to enter custom settings, the plug-in stops responding. I can make selections, but clicking "Done" has no effect. I have to close and restart AE in order to make another attempt. If I try to just make a GIF without changing settings, the settings box appears. The "Done" button highlights in blue but, once I change any settings, the settings window again becomes unresponsive.

For the larger compositions you might want to wait a bit longer for the GIF to compile when rendering with Alpha on. You may run the test – 300 by 300 pixels composition, 3 seconds long. If that is rendering, then give GifGun a bit more time to compile the actual composition. If that is not the case, please open a support ticket.

Do you check the GIF looping in the web browser? Windows image viewer may not display the looping correctly.

    Hi,

Exporting with alpha takes significantly more time than regular export, or Experimental engine. Please test it on a 3 seconds 300 by 300 composition, and if that works, please give GifGun more time to compile the large gif. If that doesn't please send us the log.
