An After Effects native plugin designed to create Realistic Bad TV Distortion based on the algorithm written by Memo Atken. Compatible only with Win/Mac.

Features:

Automatically creates distortion based on the input parameters.
No displacement maps are required.
Creates Vertical Sync offset which causes the jumpy effect seen in Old TVs.
Creates scan lines of varied thickness to give a DV Tape effect.
All the source code along with detailed comments are available.

If you are using the plugin in After Effects and you have an OpenGL 2.0 video card (most machines made in the last few years have them) then use the native plugin, otherwise use the pixel bender version. If you are using it in Flash, then use the flash version.

Native Plugin Usage:

Apply the effect from Effects > Gutsblow > Bad TV
Change the rest of the parameters according to your wish.

Pixel Bender Usage:

Apply the effect from Effects > Gutsblow > Bad TV Pixel Bender
Alt-Click on the Time parameter and insert the expression ‘time’. (Since it’s a Pixel Bender plugin, you have to input time manually.)
Change the rest of the parameters according to your wish.

You can also use this plugin for Photoshop CS4. For Flash CS4 install the pixel bender version labeled for flash.

Hello,
I’ve purchased this plugin (Bad TV plugin) as it will help alot in my future projects, however I’m having diffcults of making it work. I’ve placed the video in the comp, applied the plugin on to it and then it makes the video all black? Can’t see the how to fix this issue, what am I going wrong?

We purchased two copies of Bad TV plug. One for MAC and one for PC. Both are Very buggy.
The plug-in on the PC crashes with an ERROR:
After effects can’t continue abnormal condition detected (2)

When we do get the plug to apply the Video output is the same as the above above post the video is BLACK?

I just bought the plug and it gets black with Distortion and Horizontal Sync parameters.
I have aqn nVidia Gforce 8800 card. It supports 2.0. What’s happening?

Also, I don’t see were I can download the Pixel Bender version.
