Author Notes

The Rodeo FX team delivered 80 shots for this film. Much of our work can be seen in the film’s opening sequence during a fight between two World War II pilots. We also created numerous matte paintings for multiple locations around the island and its jungle, including a sequence showing pillars that reveal secrets about Kong’s origins when properly aligned.

Kong: Skull Island is nominated for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature at the 2018 Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards and for the Visual Effects category at the 2018 Academy Awards.
