I started by choosing which parts of the tattoo I wanted to focus on for each section. I then used lockdown to track those parts of the tattoo. After that I used masks within the lockdown compositions to generate the sabre lines and used deep glow for the glow. I used the same masks to create an autofill for some parts of the tattoo (the flowing insides). For the small dots I used paint & stick and just painted frame by frame then added deep glow with high chromatic aberration. I then went back and animated the opacity of the tattoo outlines with some random keyframe flickers in and out.
